Panamanian Sentenced for Killing Costa Rican Woman

A Panamanian citizen has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the femicide of a Costa Rican citizen, an event that occurred last October in the locality of Punta Arenas, Costa Rica, official sources reported. The man, 30 years old, confessed to the crime, and the sentence is the result of a plea agreement that was validated by a guarantees court in the province of Chiriquí, bordering Costa Rica, according to the Public Ministry (MP, Prosecutor's Office). The judicial source recalled in a statement released in recent hours that on October 25, 2025, the woman's body was found inside the bathroom of a lodging company, located in Punta Arenas, Golfito, Costa Rica, and that the autopsy indicated that the victim lost her life as a result of mechanical asphyxiation. "Once the act was committed, the perpetrator, a Panamanian citizen, went on the run and was captured in the province of Chiriquí on October 29, 2025, for which reason, for being a national of our country, he was not extradited to the place of origin of the case, and was investigated and sanctioned by national laws," said the Prosecutor's Office. The Prosecutor's Office of Panama did not identify the victim, only referring to her as "a foreign woman, a national of Costa Rica," nor did it name the sentenced person in this case. According to reports from last October from the Costa Rican press, the victim found in the bathroom of a lodging company in Punta Arenas in the same month was a 35-year-old Nicaraguan, and the suspected femicide was her former romantic partner, with the last name González, 38 years old, who had fled to Panama after the crime.
