The Nature Conservation Index has revealed the ten countries that contribute the most to environmental conservation in the world. Among the analyzed factors are the coverage of protected areas, endangered species, and the quality of conservation laws. This approach helps to identify problems, monitor progress, and make informed decisions to protect our planet. Luxembourg, Estonia, Denmark, Finland, the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, Australia, Switzerland, Romania, and Costa Rica top the list.

Costa Rica is the only Latin American country that appears in the Top 10 nations committed to conservation, ranking tenth. With a score of 64.4, Costa Rica stands out for its land and protected area management, ranking first in terrestrial protected areas and achieving a high rating for connectivity between these areas. The Central American country borders Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the southeast, boasting exceptional biodiversity that is home to over 500,000 species.

Despite its small size, Costa Rica is famous for its great diversity of ecosystems, ranging from rainforests and cloud forests to mangroves and coral reefs. These environments support a wide variety of wildlife, including iconic species such as jaguars, sloths, and the quetzal. Furthermore, its marine environments are equally diverse, hosting coral reefs and various fish species.

The country becomes a conservation model in Latin America, standing out for its efforts in preserving biodiversity.
